Google NotebookLM adds AI audio summaries in 76 new languages

Google has expanded its AI-powered note-taking tool, NotebookLM, by adding the “Audio Overviews” feature in 76 new languages.

The update allows users worldwide to create AI-hosted podcast-style summaries from their uploaded documents. Users can now select their preferred language for these audio summaries, enhancing global accessibility and usability.

New Language Support and Features

Previously, Video Overviews were generated only in the user’s account language. With the new “Output Language” option, users can pick from 76 additional languages for their summaries. This makes it easier to create multilingual study or research materials.

Google’s NotebookLM helps users understand complex documents by generating spoken summaries through AI virtual hosts. Users can upload documents like course readings or legal papers for discussion.

Languages Added

  • Arabic
  • German
  • Hindi
  • Japanese
  • Swahili
  • Chinese (Simplified and Traditional)
  • Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal)
  • Many others, totaling 76 new language options

Global Accessibility and Use Cases

The expanded language options make AI podcast summaries accessible to a broader international audience. For example, teachers can share materials in multiple languages, and students can listen in their native tongue.

Google stated the feature supports diverse learning needs by generating AI-hosted discussions in users’ selected languages, enhancing comprehension and engagement.

The development reflects Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance its AI tools.
