French startup Mistral AI has launched its new model, Mistral Medium 3.
The model offers a balance of efficiency and top-tier AI performance.
It is available through Mistral’s API with specific pricing per million tokens.
Mistral states this model competes closely with more expensive alternatives.
High Performance at Competitive Pricing
Mistral Medium 3 costs $0.40 per million input tokens. Output tokens are priced at $20.80 per million.
Mistral claims the model performs “at or above” 90% of Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 3.7.
This places it ahead of Meta’s Llama 4 Maverick and Cohere’s Command A. Tokens represent raw data units; a million equals about 750,000 words.
Broad Deployability and Use Cases
The model runs on any cloud or self-hosted system with four or more GPUs. Mistral Medium 3 beats competitors like DeepSeek v3 in API and self-deployed setups.
Industries such as financial services, energy, and healthcare have beta tested it. Use cases include customer service, workflow automation, and complex data analysis.
Mistral AI’s Growth and Future Plans
Founded in 2023, Mistral AI raised over €1.1 billion from investors like General Catalyst.
The company works with clients such as BNP Paribas, AXA, and Mirakl.
This release follows their March launch of Mistral Small 3.1.
A larger model launch is planned soon to expand their AI portfolio.
- API pricing promotes accessibility and cost efficiency.
- Performance benchmarks show strong relative results versus expensive models.
- Designed for scalable deployment across multiple cloud platforms.
- Targeted at industries requiring specialized AI capabilities.
Mistral Medium 3 is now available on Amazon SageMaker and will come to platforms like Microsoft Azure AI Foundry and Google Cloud Vertex soon.
The company has also developed chatbot platforms and mobile apps as part of its AI service range.
Its CEO has recently discussed Europe’s AI ecosystem and regulation with Time magazine.
In the fast-growing AI space, Mistral aims to expand by combining affordability with high-quality models, illustrated by their recent app launch.
